The First Thoughtful Path Leadership Academy members met this past Saturday to receive a formal letter of acceptance.
In addition, in preparation for the first workshop to commence in January, the team filled out a Career Profile Type Indicator (CPTI) which will produce results on an individual basis about their career interests and what profession they would best be suited for.
It was already evident in this first meeting about some of the characteristics these future leaders already possess. Collaboration and teamwork was evident as Bradley initiated helping Meshack fill out the form.
As we wrapped up the meeting, I congratulated everyone once again and reinforced what an accomplishment they achieved to make it through the interview process and be selected as a member of The First Thoughtful Path Leadership Academy. I wished them all a Merry Christmas and each returned the sentiments. They were happy and excited. Some said to me,
"I love you."
These words, coming from people I have just gotten to know through the interview process, resonate with me. How can they love me? Why do they love me?
Upon reflection, I think it is because I, through this wonderful vehicle of Project HOPE UK, gave them hope. The Leadership Academy represents an opportunity. These people know that. I also gave them a "thata boy" which I learned early on this community craves. My interactions with the children during the past four months and their reaction when I say, "Good job" reinforce the thirst the people of this community have for encouragement, support, and reassurance.
The presence of Project HOPE UK and the various initiatives being rolled out in Munsieville all point towards giving the encouragement and support needed to help children become, vital, healthy, productive adults and leaders of their community.
