What is PULSE?

The PULSE Volunteer Partnership program is an integral part of GlaxoSmithKline's commitment to serving communities around the world by empowering employees to volunteer their professional expertise towards sustainable change.
Launched in April 2009, PULSE is an initiative that empowers employees to make a sustainable difference for communities and patients in need. Employees are given an opportunity to use their professional skills and knowledge during a three or six month immersion experience within a non-profit or non-governmental organization (PULSE partner). Through this experience, volunteers address a clear partner need whilst developing their own leadership capabilities."
I will be working with Project HOPE UK; The Thoughtful Path: Munsieville for six months in Johannesburg, Gauteng Province, South Africa. My primary objective is to develop a dynamic and engaged partnership of South African and international companies in support of "The Thoughtful Path: Munsieville", a groundbreaking model of excellence program focused on the health and well-being of orphans and vulnerable children, working to align the program with the corporate social responsibility functions within these companies. In addition, I will train and mentor local leaders from the target community to equip them with the skills and confidence to continue the corporate partners after the end of the assignment.
